Sylvia Ashby, whose exciting Professor Zuccini's Traveling Tales and Shining Princess of the Slender Bamboo are universally popular, turns her talents to Halloween in this script. It's just scary enough to keep kids fascinated without giving them nightmares. Performers may be adults or children. Malvolia, as mean as witches ought to be, shows a soft heart when handsome young Tobias appears. But Tobias falls for Belinda, the pretty young house maid. It's Halloween, and Malvolia is determined to get revenge on Tobias and Belinda by casting a magic spell. The professor, who once practiced white magic, could help the young lovers if he could only remember how to make his incantations work ... and what the magic door can do. The script offers opportunities for using children from the audience in the apparition scenes. The play is funny enough to entertain adults and just scary enough to delight little children without frightening them.

EDIE IRVING - DIRECTOR
Edie Irving is passionate about the intersection of social justice and musical theatre. Creatively, she is most inspired by “Little Shop of Horrors”, “Falsettos”, “Fun Home", "Waitress”, "Cabaret” and “Urinetown”. These shows are not only excellent pieces of theatre, but imbue the form with social commentary on topics such as class dynamics, queer politics, feminism, abuse, power, and the strength of love and community. Edie is from San Luis Obispo county where she got her associate’s degree in Social Justice Studies at Cuesta College. She was first bit by the theatre bug in elementary school and hasn’t been able to get enough of it ever since. Some of her favorite theatrical experiences have been training at PCPA through their Young People’s Project, and at Interlochen Academy for the Arts in Michigan, as well as performing in “Mamma Mia!” as Tanya, directing an extremely low budget production of “A Very Potter Musical”, and every time her friends, family, and boyfriend have comforted her while she has cried while watching a musical. Edie is in her senior year at UC Santa Cruz in the Community Studies program and is excited to organize the Queer Theatre Collective this Fall.
